Prelims: Management

So what comes into your mind whenever they ask you about "Management"?

Usually we just think of careful and organized acting and supervising, but little do we know that it covers a wide variety of factors.

The word "Management" was derived from the latin word "manusagere" that means to direct and help the various efforts toward a definite purpose. Management is needed to reach and attain certain predetermined goals and to efficiently use limited resources. Management, as we know it, has become very vital and essential for a person's life. Without it, we would still be living under a rock and be out of focus on the things we should prioritize to, while living and surviving. It is both an art and science. Art because it results in the accomplishment of objectives by the use of human efforts. Science because it is a systematic body of knowledge that gathers and analyzes the facts and formulates general law or principle from those facts. It aims to integrate and unify all the factors that make up an organization. Bottom line: management helps you to focus of how you can carry out objectives you've set in order to reach and accomplish a mapped out goal.

*Everything that I listed and pointed out here are all based from my notes given and discussed to us by our lecturer on Laboratory Management. We were given a task to choose three topics from both our preliminary term and midterm, to which we all get to share and express all the things that we’ve learned for this second semester. *
